Rachel & Mikey // Basketball Court Engagement Session

When a blonde bombshell tells you that her engagement session vision is "a fancy sports moment," you get STOKED & you race to meet them at the closest aesthetically pleasing basketball court.

Rachel & Mikey’s engagement photos turned out to be some of my favorites of all-time for a few reasons. 1. They wanted something different than I’d ever done before: black tie attire + a sporty vibe with an editorial feel. 2. Rachel sent me a bit of inspo, but she & Mikey basically said “we’re down for anything!” and were so fun & easy to direct & pose. There was no suggestion they were not 1000% on board with, so we were able to put our weirdo brains together and make photos that I ultimately found so elevated and unique.

Although somehow these two are not signed supermodels, they seemed so comfy in front of the camera. Thinking back on the factors that made this shoot feel so epic—I have to give credit to the one un-fenced basketball court in SoCal, to Rachel for being able to communicate exactly what she was looking for, to Mikey for being down to clown with zero hesitation, and also to the genetics that made these two stone cold 10s.

This shoot stretched + tickled my brain in the best ways, and it was such a fun creative exercise (no pun intended) to hang out with these two. You’d never know a dozen teenage boys were playing Horse 15 feet away from us while they waited for us to be done with our confusing occupation of the adjacent half-court.

I’m very excited to share bits of this gallery! It was beyonddd a blast getting to know this cool-as-hell couple, and I cannot wait for their wedding next year.
