Megan & Adam // Westlake Yacht Club Wedding
Megan & Adam’s wedding was one of the most beautiful days I’ve ever witnessed. I couldn’t wait to share their story and these photos, but I found it SO hard to put their day into words. So I just did my best.
Megan and Adam have been together for 7 years. In their time as a couple, they finished school, started careers in the medical field, tried about 20 extreme sports I’m too scared to do (how do people just.. jump out of a plane?) and started their lives together in sweet little beach town. When I first met them on a pouring rainy day at Starbucks, they had no idea when or where they were going to get married. They had a few places in mind, but nothing locked down, as no venue really spoke to them. After our meeting, I decided that even if they picked a wedding date I wasn’t available for… I really just wanted to be their pal. After months of uncertainty, soul searching, and venue searching, they decided to have a beautiful lakefront wedding on the 21st night of September (cue the Earth, Wind & Fire song).
Choosing to get married at the Westlake Yacht Club, a place where Megan’s father spent a lot of time, was just one of the myriad ways the couple incorporated his memory into their wedding. Megan sewed a “B” (for Bruce) and “♥” charm onto her bouquet to have her dad with her through the day, framed photos of her & her dad to place around the venue, and asked her father’s good friend say a pre-dinner toast. It felt to me that Megan’s dad was truly a huge part of her wedding day.
At the Yacht Club, once everyone was seated for the ceremony, a breeze blew through the deck creating a beautifully peaceful energy. I can still see the way the sun danced on the lake created a stunning backdrop for the couple to say “I do.”
The ceremony began with 4 shy flower girls & 2 precious ring bearers meandering down the aisle, some needing a little extra coaxing from Adam to make it through the walk. Then, in epic & unique fashion, Megan & her bridesmaids arrived on a BOAT, docking right before pairing with groomsmen to venture down the walkway and ultimately down the aisle. When the wedding party made it to their places, Adam finally turned around to see his bride. He watched with joy as Megan’s whole family walked with her from the dock, arm in arm. 100 watt smiles painted all 4 faces as they made their way to the ceremony. It’s so hard to describe this moment, but seeing them all walk together, laughing and looking around at one another, was viscerally emotional. It struck me as such a beautiful way to lead Megan into marriage with Adam: surrounded and guided by her family. In the absence of her father, whom she loved deeply, Megan had the full support of her two brothers and her mama, all walking her down the aisle to marry her man.
Then, as always seems to happen when there is an emotional moment, Megan’s brother accidentally dropkicked a wooden bible verse sign while walking down the aisle, and Megan spent her last 4 steps to Adam cracking up. After the laughter died down, the ceremony began with meaningful love letters, which the couple read to one another. Tears filled every eye on the deck, and guests clung to every word.
Throughout their wedding day, I could not help but admire the way that Megan & Adam’s relationship is both incredibly deep and wonderfully care-free. From sharing those moving love letters at their ceremony, to later smashing cake in each other’s faces without a thought, their relationship is equal parts hilariously fun & emotionally layered.
Once their ceremony concluded—with a beautiful first kiss as husband and wife—it was party time (which I know the couple was most excited for). Megan and Adam ushered in the evening by sharing dances with both of their moms, & concluding with a more upbeat dance to Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September,” which was clearly written about their wedding. This couple + their friends (and a random wedding crasher or 2) all KNOW how to party. Their reception included beautiful speeches from family & friends, a rainbow sprinkled wedding cake, a DONUT bar, glowy light-up party poles (wtf do you call those?!) for the dance floor, a rowdy photo booth, and an A+ playlist.
The entire day + night was so dang special.
Megan and Adam are the kind of people you just want to be around. They are easy-going, fun-loving humans and bring a calm energy to any situation. After getting to know them myself and then hearing their friends & family’s speeches at the wedding, it is clear that Megan & Adam have had a positive impact on everyone in their lives. Their wedding reflected who they really are—Adam pretty consistently had a Modelo in his hand and a smile on his face, fully relaxed through the entire afternoon, and Megan could rarely be found without her signature radiant smile, & wore huge mirrored heart-shaped sunglasses throughout the reception as she partied the night away. The couple also had a brief residency in the photo booth, where pals lined up by the dozen for the opportunity to have a photo booth moment with the couple. They clearly just had FUN at their wedding, and it was so wonderful to observe.
Spending the day with them was a real joy, and I felt so lucky to be a small part of their celebration. Megan and Adam are simply good. They are kind and they are generous and they are so easy to love. I feel lucky to call them two of my friends, and look forward to many more laughs with them over many more beers.
Also, this wedding was the first time I witnessed a full-blown wedding crasher in a tube top and jean shorts walk through the front door, grab a drink, grab a donut, grab a glow stick, and exit through the back door.
Legendary.
I love you, Meggo & Adam Reynolds!
