Sarah & Adam // Thousand Oaks Engagement Session
Sarah & Adam grew up in the same town & went to the same high school, but were two grades apart. Sarah had a crush on Adam, but figured he was miles out of her league since he was the *~Star Quarterback~* of the football team.
Years later, after graduating college, the two reconnected at a mutual friend's birthday party. Adam got Sarah's number and texted her a few days later asking her out. They went to drinks at 4:00pm and stayed at the restaurant until 11:00pm, so enraptured by one another that they never even ate dinner. And the rest was history; Sarebear bagged the quarterback!!!!
A few years later, Sarah and Adam went on a trip with their families to a handful of vineyards. Thinking she was just on a family vacation, Sarah got the biggest surprise ever when Adam got down on one knee & asked her to marry him! Adam planned and schemed with their families leading up to the big event, and his plan went off without a hitch! Later that day, Sarah’s friends surprised her and together they allegedly “drank almost all of the wine at the winery” to celebrate. Inspiring, truly.
When I first talked with this cutie couple on the phone, I decided to go on a walk around the block (since I like to be on the move while chatting with people). What I thought would be two laps around my neighborhood turned into four entire miles, because we just couldn't stop talking about Sarah & Adam's love story and the latest Ugg Boot trends (Sarah works there). I connected with the couple immediately & we all couldn’t stop laughing while getting to know each other. 15 minutes really quickly turned into an hour, and I found myself hoping I would be lucky enough to be this sweet duo's wedding photog!
Well (spoiler alert) they went & made me one happy potato by hiring me! Soon after, we picked a location & put a date in the calendar for their engagement photos, but our plans kept getting stymied. From COVID to awful weather forecasts, we had to reschedule & reschedule this session again and again. It felt as if the odds were against us, but really the engagement photo gods were just setting up this absolutely PERFECT day for us. On our third or fourth try, I was so excited to meet Sarah & Adam a few weeks ago for their session.
The night we took their pictures, the weather was sunny but not-too-warm with a light breeze and what turned out to be a GORGEOUS golden sunset. Sarah & Adam met me at a pretty hiking trail and we spent an hour chatting about their wedding plans, laughing our butts off, taking tons of pretty pix, and getting to know each other better. At one point, as the sun was literally fire-blasting the fields and making EVERYTHING glow, two horses casually walked behind the couple. I screamed. The photo with the surprise guests turned out to be one of my favorites in the bunch.. and I swore that in that moment we were inside of a Taylor Swift song. Between tequila shots (that they took without me, I don’t think I’d be a very good drunkographer) and fun tunes from our mini speaker, I had such an epic time with this STUNNING couple.
The connection these two share is so visceral, the pictures basically took themselves. Add in years of Sarah training Adam to be a 10/10 Instagram husband and model.. and the perfect weather.. and we had an undeniable recipe for success. I *simply cannot handle* how magical their session was, & I think their photos reflect both how LUCKY we got with the conditions, & how LUCKY they got to find their perfect match in one another.
Sarebear & Adam are as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside, and I cannot wait to be a part of their wedding next year.
