Siwon & Elliott // Lake Sherwood Proposal

When Elliott first told me his plans for proposing to his girlfriend, Siwon, I immediately said “you can’t do that, she’s going to jump in the lake.”

Elliott & Siwon picked out her ring together—a stunning, sparkly 5 carat diamond beauty. Elliott proceeded to hatch a plan to prank Siwon BIG time before asking her to be his wife. The plan involved a $12 fake ring from Amazon, two boats, a family friend, and a promise from Elliott’s best friends that they wouldn’t crack a smile during the prank.

The idea was this: Elliott, Siwon, and their two best friends would head out on a casual afternoon boat trip. I would board a separate boat with their friend’s dad & a fake diamond ring. We’d hang a sign that said “will you marry me,” and as we approached their boat, they’d see the sign and Siwon would realize that Elliott was about to propose. Tim (on my boat) would hand Elliott “the ring,” perched at the edge of his fishing boat—right over the water. As they passed the “ring,” it would PLOP into the water. Elliott would react as if he’d just dropped Siwon’s 5 carat diamond into the lake… his friends would record video and keep quiet… and he’d wait for Siwon’s reaction. He INITIALLY wanted to wait THIRTY ENTIRE SECONDS until saying “jk” and grabbing the real ring from his friend. I said I was QUITE certain that if he waited that long, Siwon would jump in the lake.

When the day arrived, the plan went perfectly. The prank was unbelievable, and everyone played their part to make it happen. Ultimately, Elliott did NOT wait 30 seconds—he waited about 7-8, as Siwon covered her face in shock/horror, before saying “luckily, that one was just practice” and reaching for the real diamond his friend had kept safe in his pocket. Then, he got down on one knee.

Siwon was still in shock, because Elliott’s friends & their dad really GASPED and someone even said “oh my god” (acting skill level 100) when the “ring” fell. They totally sold it. Eventually, she muttered a “yes,” and we all laughed our faces off with relief. If you want a video + photo compilation of the moment, I made a Tiktok ofit.

After Siwon said “yes” to the real proposal, we popped champagne and celebrated. The energy was electric, as punking someone with so many moving pieces is rather complicated to pull off, and everyone was very proud of themselves.
